Hey boys. My name is Tommy Pietch from Columbus, Ohioand I am a SFX artist. There isn’t really any reason you may have heard of me just yet unless you happen to be fans of the SyFy show Face/Off, in which I came in a heartbreakingly close second for the shows second season or you are lovers of Columbus low budget indie short films and music videos.
I taught myself this craft by reading some books, buying some toys and sculpting/casting prosthetic foam latex for just over 2 years now out of Ohio. For some unknown reason Ive been getting a lot of praise for my work nationally and have been invited back for the SFX shows 3rd season this spring.
I know it kinda sounds like I’m grand standing, but I just wanted to share a little bit about myself and where I am as a film maker. I just read your article in Fangoria and kept thinking about it all day! Your story is similair to mine. I couldn’t take CGI anymore. These cartoony blood splatters and “shrek” looking monsters in what are supposed to be horror films. So I just started working on my own. Read some books, watched some videos, asked some questions and In a year I was at the San Diego Comic Con doing a live sfx makeup transformation for SYFY.
With all that said, I wanted to first say nice work guys. Gives the rest of us hope to see a few in the spotlight. Also I wanted to extend my hand for any future projects you may have.
